Rebuilding a 1989 Mitsubishi Montero as a Modern Landing Page with AI

How I used Google Nano Banana, OpenAI's image generation, and Google Veo via Google Flow to restore archival imagery, generate cinematic motion, and build a full product microsite for a car I had to let go.

This project started as something personal.

A couple of years ago, I had to let go of my 1989 Mitsubishi Montero. I'd been missing it ever since, so I decided to turn that nostalgia into a creative experiment: take an original Montero sales catalogue from 1989 and reimagine it as if Mitsubishi launched it today.

The goal was not to simply clean up old scans.

The goal was to build a modern, cinematic landing page that blended:

  • restored archival imagery
  • AI-generated image extensions
  • commercial-style video moments
  • an exploded technical animation
  • and a polished front-end experience

The initial image of the Montero was generated in Google Nano Banana. All subsequent images were generated using OpenAI's latest image generation model. For motion and commercial-style video generation, I used Google Veo via Google Flow.

The workflow

Eight steps from brochure to browser.

Step 01: Start with the original catalogue scans

I sourced original brochure pages online and treated them as the creative source material...

Step 02: Restore and modernize the brochure images...
